Hail, flood waters accompany heavy rains

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Heavy rains brought hail and flooding to parts of the Mid-South early Monday afternoon.

In east Memphis, several cars were stranded in flood waters near Century Center Parkway and Whitten Road.  It was a close call for Linda McConnell.

Shelby County Sheriff's Department issues weekly Smart Park report

Possible flooding in South Millington

The National Weather Service is reporting flooding in South Memphis after heavy rain early this afternoon:

STREETS ARE FLOODING IN MILLINTON WITH SOUTH MILLINGTON REPORTING 5 TO 6 INCHES OF WATER IN STREETS.

Action News 5 is sending a crew to the scene.  Check back for updates.

Church provides aid to area flood victims

Buckets of aid are available to Millington residents from First United Methodist Church.

Thursday, church officials said approximately 1,000 flood buckets have already been distributed,

According to Debby Thomas-Smith, administrative assistant and director of communications at Millington’s First United Methodist Church, the buckets have gone to Tipton County, Dyersburg and "all over,”

In addition to the 600 flood buckets that remain at Millington First Methodist, Thomas-Smith said, the church has Clorox, toiletry kits and dishes for flood victims.

"People are just generously giving," she said.

To continue to provide assistance to West Tennessee residents affected by the disaster, a call center has been established at Millington First United Methodist Church. Volunteers and staff are manning phones from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to receive calls for assistance. Millington area residents should call 901-872-4414.

Grace Magazine presents the 15th Annual Sisterhood Showcase

June 5th and 6th 2010, Grace Magazine will present the 15th Annual Sisterhood Showcase at the Memphis Cook Convention Center.

Attendees will be treated to hundreds of vendors with products that focus on fashion, beauty, health, home, cuisine, education and much more.

Mr. Brown will keep the laughs coming with his hilarious comedy.

Business Recovery Center opens in Millington

Southwest Tennessee Community College’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) have opened a Business Recovery Center office at the University of Memphis’ Millington Center, 6500 Navy Road, Millington, TN. 

The Millington Center was opened to serve the twelve additional counties that have been designated for disaster assistance as part of Tennessee’s federal disaster declaration.
