Who doesn't love to walk into any space and be greeted by an exhilarating aroma?
Our sense of smell is fundamental: from what we choose to eat to our laundry detergent purchase to medicinal choices like aromatherapy.
Face it, scent is an essential part of who we are as individuals.
With the odor eliminator and air freshener business booming, Memphis native Tamika Woods decided to spice up the industry with a candle company she calls "Sweet Fire".
"It was started in 2010 by my boyfriend and was soon neglected as his main business began to flourish," explained Woods.
Woods said she initially took over the company as a means to supplement income but it soon grew into something she absolutely loved doing.
"After I began to sell the candles, co-workers and church members raved about how awesome they smelled," said Woods.
"It made me feel great that people loved a product that I was making with my own hands."
Within several months Woods said she realized her candle craft was growing and it was time to take it to the next level.
"A close friend of mine said my candles made her think of “Sweet Fire” which was a perfect name for my company," she said.
A logo and website were designed and Woods said the rest was history.
Sweet Fire's indulgent scents include Birthday Cake, Clean Cotton, Day at the Spa, Cucumber Melon, and Jamaica Me Crazy. Woods affirmed Sweet Fire candles are 100% soy.
"Burning soy candles is safe for your skin and produce little to no soot, unlike paraffin based waxes," said Woods. "It isn’t uncommon for melted soy wax to be used as cuticle oil for your hands and feet, as massage oil, or even as a moisturizer for dry areas like the elbows and knees."
Woods said her goal is to make her clients happy and keep her prices comparatively lower than her competition.
"We guarantee that our candles perform just as well, if not better," said Woods. "Feel free to compare the quality of our candles and our prices to your favorite candle makers and I’m sure you’ll be exceptionally surprised.”
