A birthday party was held in Northaven park Sunday for Millington High School student Dana Payne.

The Trojan Football team wide receiver died last year after he was hit on the field during football practice.

The impact triggered a deadly asthmas attack.

Family and friends celebrated his life on what would have been his 16th birthday.

A food drive that will be primarily supported on social media in Memphis hopes to replenish stock at the Mid-South Food Bank for the spring

The Mid-South Food Bank will host its second annual Good Friday Food Drive online on Friday, March 29.

This year’s food drive will rely on social media to spread the word and encourage support by using the hashtag #memfood. With social media, the Food Bank, along with Good Friday Food Drive’s official sponsors Easy Way Produce and First State Bank, will initiate a call-to-action to followers via Twitter.

“Mid-South Food Bank encourages everyone to get involved,” said Mid-South Food Bank Communications Director Marcia Wells. “Community food drives are an important source of food and funds to purchase food.”

Last year, the food bank received over $3,000 in donations online – the equivalent of 9,000 meals.

On Friday participants can donate at midsouthfoodbank.org. Also, donations can be made in person at the following locations:

Mid-Southerns have opportunity to nominate an outstanding senior

Mid-Southerns have opportunity to nominate an outstanding senior

Tennessee and North Mississippi residents are encouraged to nominate an outstanding senior volunteer. The Salute to Senior Service program, sponsored by Home Instead, Inc., the franchisor of the Home Instead Senior Care network, honors the contributions of adults 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.

Nominations for outstanding senior volunteers will be accepted between Feb. 1 and March 31, 2013. State winners then will be selected by popular vote at SalutetoSeniorService.com. Online voting will take place from April 15 to April 30, 2013. From those state winners, a panel of senior care experts will pick the national Salute to Senior Service honoree.
