Man arrested, accused of steroid manufacturing for third time

A Millington man was arrested for the third time under accusations of manufacturing, delivering and selling anabolic steroids.

Most recently, William Lucas was arrested after attempting to buy raw steroids in a Bartlett parking lot according to the police affidavit.

A tip was received that Lucas would meet John Boykin outside of a medical manufacturer Monday.

Lucas was talking to Boykin who was still sitting in his Ford truck when officers walked up.

The officers asked if any the two were engaging in illegal activity. Boykin and Lucas denied.

When officers searched the truck they found three silver bags that contained suspected steroids, and a black canister of 68 small vials of suspected raw steroids in the form of white powder.

They were identical to the steroids that Lucas had previously been arrested with early last year.

The steroids were taken to the TBI lab where samples determined it was in fact Schedule III Anabolic Steroids.

MPD: Shoplifter arrested after returning to store looking for lost keys

A shoplifter may have gotten away with more than a $1,000 worth of clothes and make-up had she not returned to the store looking for her lost set of keys, according to an affidavit of complaint.

Wednesday evening Memphis police were called to Kohl's on Germantown Parkway where loss prevention staff had Katharine Crowell detained because they suspected her of shoplifting.

Loss prevention staff told police they observed Crowell stuff various articles of clothing and American Beauty make-up material into her clothing and shopping bags then walking out of the store without paying for the items.

The affidavit said Crowell returned to the store because she could not locate her car keys.

Also, she still had several shirts on with the tags still on.

Police said Kohl's got all its merchandise back, a total of $1030 in clothes and make-up.

Crowell is in jail at 201 Poplar on $2,000 bond. She's due in general sessions court on Friday.

Death row inmate does not get to reopen appeal process

A death row inmate from Millington does not get to reopen his appeals process by claiming mental retardation 19 years after his conviction of raping and murdering an 8-year-old girl, the Tennessee Supreme Court said Thursday.

According to the Commercial Appeal, David M. Keen, 50, was sentenced to death for the 1990 attack on 8-year-old Ashley Nicole 'Nikki' Read, whose body was found wrapped in a blanket and floating in the Wolf River near the boat ramp at the north end of Mud Island.

He admitted strangling the young daughter of his girlfriend and disposing of her body. Keen then played bingo, slept and later joined a search party looking for Nikki Read before finally confessing and leading police to her body.

Man charged for robbing Family Dollar Store

A man is behind bars Saturday charged with robbing a Family Dollar Store.

Last month the Family Dollar on Thomas Street was robbed by a man with a hand gun who demanded money.

On Thursday, the same Family Dollar was robbed by a lone suspect believed to be the same man.

Officers developed information regarding a possible suspect identified as 35-year-old Charles Speed.

Speed was charged with Aggravated Robbery for Thursday's theft.

Charges in connection with the November robbery are still pending.
