FEMA Extends Deadline for Flood Victims

Those affected by last month’s devastating floods in Shelby County and across Tennessee now have more time to apply for disaster benefits.  The application deadline has been extended until August 5, 2010.

Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) say hundreds of people continue to register for benefits each week.  Many flood victims filed claims with their insurance company but did not apply for FEMA assistance which can be used for temporary housing and low interest loans to help replace homes and businesses.

Those needing assistance should register for benefits by calling 1-800- 621-FEMA (3382) or going on line at www.FEMA.gov

Those needing additional information about the local flood relief efforts should call the Shelby County Office of Preparedness/Emergency Management Agency at (901) 515-2525.
