Tiger golfers, Christian singer rock Mirimichi for adoption benefit | Events
Golfers who tee it up on Friday, September 20 at the award winning Mirimichi Golf Course may play a significant role in changing at least one child's life for the better. Even if you're no longer about to overtake Tiger or Phil on the PGA Tour, you are guaranteed to have some great drives in this scramble! Coach Grant Robbins will have his players from the University of Memphis Tigers strategically located throughout Mirimichi to help straighten and lengthen your shots in exchange for a small donation.
The first ever "JAMMin' for Adoption" Golf Tournament and post golf dinner concert with Christian recording artist John Angotti will take place at Mirimichi with starting festivities beginning at 10am and the first tee shot at 12 noon. Read all about it here.
The event will help one family cover the average $25,000 price tag that comes with adopting a baby. Golfers will help the adoptive family and their new addition at this charity event through the $150 entry fee and other sponsorship opportunities. The event organizer, Wanda Blurton, said, "we are sponsoring a baby to be born in November; we have work to do."
Folks in Bartlett, TN raised funds in 2012 so that Trisha and Johnathan Ellis could adopt a trio of siblings. The big hearted Ellis family will add a baby girl to their growing family in November. Money raised will not go directly to the adoptive family but instead to an organization specifically designed to help willing families that think they cannot afford to adopt. A California based organization called "Sacred Selections" was founded specifically to help families desiring adoption to finance the high cost of bringing a child into their home. The 501 (c) 3 non-profit agency's website says, "Sacred Selections mission is to financially assist Christian couples whose hearts and homes are open to loving and raising a child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. The dream of parenting does not have to be constrained by limited financial resources. The foundation, its board and many generous donors are committed to using the blessings we’ve received to assist in the wonderful effort in creating a Christian home and family." Organizer Wanda Blurton, a librarian at St. Ann School in Bartlett, said she was inspired to organize the golf tournament after witnessing a local family struggle with the rollercoaster emotions and financial challenges of adopting. Ms. Blurton decided a post-golf dinner on the Mirimichi patio would be made perfect with the musical talents of John Angotti; he's the one who will bring the "jam" for the "JAMMin' for Adoption" event. The Memphis based Christian recording artist travels America and many places throughout the world as a musical evangelist. Learn more about Angotti here: http://johnangotti.com/ If you're prefer to enjoy dinner and the concert and bypass the golf, there's an opportunity to register and help the cause that way, too.
Collierville's Museum of Biblical History has stepped up as Presenting Sponsor of the first ever "JAMMin' for Adoption" golf tournement. You can learn more about the museum here.
Mirimichi, founded, owned and largely designed by superstar Justin Timberlake, was recently named Tennessee's #1 course by Golfweek magazine. Check out the article here.
