Mayor Wharton to receive award

Mayor A C Wharton is scheduled to receive special honors at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC on Tuesday, the official opening day of the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

Wharton will receive the Susan Burgess Memorial Award from the board of directors of the Democratic Municipal Officials. The award is given annually to “an outstanding Democratic Municipal Official committed to improving public education.”

Millington to host nation's best ballplayers

The weekend features the top players from classes 2012-2016 across the United States.

Players check-in on Thursday, August 2 at USA Stadium at 11:30 a. m. where they will meet their coaches and teammates.

Thursday is Media Day where all players will be videotaped from their primary position and hitting. Pitchers also will be videoed off the mound.

Drummers, dancers to converge on Millington

(WMC-TV) - Drummers and dancers will perform ancestral songs during the 7th Annual Turtle Island Native American Association Pow Wow next month.

If you're not a performer, you're still invited to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the fun.

The pow wow will be held at 5351 babe Howard Blvd., August 18 through 19, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for kids over 6 and for elders.

(WMC-TV) – Shelby County will be one of six stops the Tennessee PTA makes during its leadership training tour this summer.

The tour kicks off in Clarksville and then roles into Memphis’ Southwind High School on Monday, July 23.

Patriotic car show takes center stage this weekend

(Memphis, TN) Memphis International Raceway (MIR) and two Memphis area car clubs are joining hands in an early salute to freedom June 23rd. The Accent Guns and Loans All American Auto Show will attract entries from several states and will be one of the best attended in the area this season. Corvette Memphis, Inc., the local club for Corvette enthusiasts has teamed up with the Memphis Classic Chevy Club to make this a show to remember.
