6th annual Linking Hands for Life event to be held April 15

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – March 15, 2012 - Mid-South Transplant Foundation (MSTF) celebrates April as National Donate Life Month (NDLM). The month-long celebration honors the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors and their families and commemorates all transplant recipients in the United States. Activities this month will focus on supporting Donate Life America’s new campaign, 20 Million in 2012, which looks to add 20 million new organ, eye, and tissue donors to state donor registries in 2012. As part of this new donor registration campaign, MSTF will be hosting their 6th Annual Linking Hands for Life event on Sunday April 15, 2012 at 2pm to 5pm.

Step back with us to "Places in Time - Circa 1862-1920 Historic Tour" in Bolivar, TN.  On May 5th and 6th, The Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA) will be conducting The APTA Annual Historic Tour.  Bolivar is located only about an hour east of Memphis and 30 minutes south of Jackson, TN.  With over 150 homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, it has a lot of history, just waiting to be told.

Fuente, Auction Highlight Memphis Soccer Banquet

The 12th Annual Tommy Smith Banquet is coming up on Tuesday, April 10th.

The event, hosted by the University of Memphis men's soccer program, will be held in the Penny Hardaway Hall of Fame Assembly Room.

In addition to a cocktail reception starting at 6:30 p.m., the banquet boasts new Tigers Head Football Coach Justin Fuente as guest speaker as well as a silent auction featuring autograph items from some of the world's premier soccer stars.

Tickets are $20 per person or $250 per table.

"When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore," Dean Martin used to sing to audiences across the world.  No doubt some eyes will widen later this month as the suave superstar's daughter, Deana Martin,  will rekindle memories of her beloved father at the 11th annual Silent Auction and Concert at St. Agnes Academy's Siena Performning Arts Center. "Deana Sings Dino" is the name of the tribute Deana Martin will present. The program will feature songs her father made famous including, "Volare" and its enchanting lyrics, "Volare, OH OH. E Cantare, oh oh oh oh, No wonder my happy heart sings, your love has given me wings." Deana Martin was front and center for much of her father's brilliant career in night clubs, television and the cinema. She was a regular player on NBC's "Dean Martin Show" and became familiar with her father's famous friends, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop---known worldwide as "The Rat Pack." Current students and alumni will have the opportunity to meet and network with potential employers at the University of Memphis on Wednesday, April 4th.

The Career Services Office and Academic Internship Office is bringing in more than 40 employers looking to recruit new employees. Students will be able to hand-deliver resumes to the businesses represented.

Some of the employers attending the expo include FedEx Ground, FedEx Services, Nucor Steel, Barnhart Crane and Rigging, Flinn Broadcasting Corp., and many others.

The annual expo will be held in the University Center Ballroom from 10a.m. to 3p.m.

Bad Dog's Legacy Continues With Charity Run

The John "Bad Dog" McCormack Memorial 5K is coming up on Saturday, April 28th, benefiting Ronald McDonald House of Memphis. 

McCormack used his radio fame to raise awareness & funds for Ronald McDonald House for over 20 years.  The House serves the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital patients & their families.

The race will wind through the streets of downtown Memphis, including around FedExForum & Riverside Drive.

Registration is $25 through April 11th ($5 more after the 11th).

Youth Villages 5K Event Fundraiser Returns

The Youth Villages 5k still has a spot for you in its 2012 run, taking place Saturday, April 21 at the Ridgeway Center. The run benefits the Memphis-founded organization and offers programs and services to help emotionally and behaviorally troubled children and their families.

This year's fundraising goal is $90,000 and your entry can help make a difference.

Advance registration is $20 for adults & $15 for students and for non-timed walkers.

The race begins at 9:00 a.m.
