Do you need flood insurance?

It has been a long, laborious six months for those effected by the historic "thousand year" floods that washed away homes and businesses in Shelby County this past May.

Although communities hardest hit are showing signs of recovery, many who were without flood insurance have struggled financially to repair and rebuild.

Can major flooding happen here again? Yes.

Farmers market ends first season

The inaugural year of the Millington Farmers’ Market closed in style with a Fall Festival complete with hay rides, inflatables, pumpkin painting and a cookout.

An estimated 2,500 people attended to celebrate the success of Millington’s newest destination made possible through collaboration by the City of Millington, local growers and the community.

Millington Farmers’ Market had a “soft opening” when May 1st brought the greatest flooding disaster in its history. The market was schedule to have its grand opening that same day and many local growers’ crops were damaged or completely destroyed.

Yet the Millington Farmers’ Market survived as a thriving marketplace that is expected to grow in size, scope and popularity year after year.

The Millington Farmers’ Market is the result of a monumental collaboration among the City of Millington, local growers and the community.  The idea of a Farmers’ Market in Millington originated with the Old Town Millington Revitalization Committee.  “We knew when we started that the City did not have the money in the budget to complete a project of this nature at this time.  But it was such a great idea and there was so much support we wan
