Stanback takes heat for driving city car to Nashville

MILLINGTON, TENNESSEE-

(WMC-TV) - Millington's police chief is taking flack from at least one city alderman for a trip she took to Nashville.

Police chief Rita Stanback was in Nashville Wednesday night for a chamber of commerce leadership class. But it's how she got there that's getting some negative attention.
Stanback, sworn in last June, was brought on to bring stability to the department.
Now, she's in hot water for driving her city car to Nashville for a Leadership Millington function.
Millington city manager Thomas Christie takes full responsibility for approving Stanback to take her city patrol car out of town.
"Honest mistake on my part," he said.
Christie has only been on the job two months.

School merger court negotiations fail

The suburban mayors entering mediation in November.

SHELBY COUNTY, TN-

(WMC-TV) - The school merger court negotiations between the Shelby County Commission and Shelby County suburban mayors failed.
For months, the county commission was trying to block the suburbs from creating their own municipal schools.
County Commissioner Mike Ritz said he initiated the end of mediation when he heard the suburban mayors were meeting with Nashville lawmakers.
He said he felt that they were not negotiating in good faith and that they were seeking to have state lawmakers find a way to allow charter or municipal schools.
The suburban mayors said they had a mediation deadline and they knew mediation was over before they took the trip to Nashville to meet with state lawmakers this week.

Millington Elementary finishes first at Relay for Life fundraiser

Millington Elementary finishes first at Relay for Life fundraiser

It was a thrilling Tuesday evening at the annual Relay for Life "Millington Celebrity Waiter Night" dinner and fundraiser held at the Harvell Community Center. Local businesses, schools, clubs, organizations, and community leaders sponsored and decorated tables. Sponsors went all out for this year's "Hollywood" theme.

The fundraiser was established to generate much-needed funds and support to help those suffering from the dreaded disease of cancer. I was invited by Millington Elementary School principal Ms. Stephanie Beach to serve as a waitress. To my delight, MES came out the big winner for their table decorations inspired by the movie Cast Away; and, for raising $800 in tips/donations. Over the course of the night's festivities I learned that Ms. Beach is actually a cancer survivor. What an awesome night!
