Businessman sues City of Millington for $1.5 million

MILLINGTON, TN- (WMC-TV) - A Millington businessman arrested in a drug sting is now suing the city.

Marlin Roberts, who owns the Transmission Doctors, is taking the Millington police chief, a detective, and a K-9 officer to court.

The lawsuit stems from Roberts' arrest, which happened in January 2011.

His lawsuit says unsubstantiated actions by the city and police department have hurt his business to the tune of $1.5 million.

Roberts is holding comments close to his vest after filing the lawsuit in federal court, but the documents speak for themselves.

Roberts was charged in a drug sting based on evidence submitted by Detective Michael Rose and K-9 Officer D. Frazier.

Five businesses, including Roberts' business, were busted by police.

Now, Roberts' complaint says evidence the officers say they found in the undercover operation is non-existent.

Suburban mayors meet behind closed doors

BARTLETT, TN- (WMC-TV) - Suburban mayors are meeting with their attorneys behind closed doors to plan their next move to form their own school districts.

The suburbs say they are not going back to the drawing board, but are instead adding to a pre-existing sketch.

Behind closed doors, with Bartlett police standing guard, six municipal mayors tossed around ideas with attorneys.

"We would wanna send a message, again, of cautious optimism," said Collierville Mayor Stan Joyner.

The suburbs are moving forward in the fight to form their own school districts.

Tuesday morning's meeting was the first the mayors have had since a federal judge ruled they cannot form municipal schools in 2013.

They say they are not abandoning the original plan, but are searching for alternatives.

"Lots of good give and take, a lot of what-ifs and what the next steps are and who's going to take those next steps," said Bartlett Mayor Keith McDonald.

Suspect arrested for Millington church arson

Johnny Riveria, 28

MILLINGTON, TN- (WMC-TV) – A 28-year-old man is charged with the arson of a Millington church.

Police tell Action News 5 that Johnny Riveria, 28, told them how and why he set the fire. But police are not releasing that information at this time.

"I am very pleased with the interaction with the citizens and the officers which allows them to feel free to come and let the officers know what they know," said Chief Rita Stanbeck, Millington Police Department.

"It's a different type of arson. It's nothing like that. He's not a habitual fire starter or pyromaniac or anything like that. He had a reason for setting it, which we're not going to release right now," said Inspector Charlie Coleman, Millington Police Department.
