FEMA creates Facebook page focusing on Tennessee flooding

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, has created a Facebook page to help it better communicate with people affected by recent floods in Tennessee.

According to FEMA offcials, the Tennessee Flood Information by TEMA and FEMA page hosts an online community where those affected by the disaster and those active in the response can share information.

Participants in the online community are invited to share stories, tips and links that may help those affected by the disaster.  They can also seek information on assistance in their area.

Widgets are also available to carry disaster information to the public. This predesigned tool includes direct links to information such as how to apply for assistance.

Residents of trailer park having trouble getting deposits back

Residents of a Millington trailer park say they are having trouble getting their deposits back.

Friday, Dick Moore, owner of the Shady Oaks Trailer Park, said it may take weeks, but residents will be able to come home to flood damaged Shady Oaks Mobile Home and RV park.

"I got 40 of them right now on a waiting list that want to come back," he said.

But Jim McAfee isn't one of them.  Friday, he planned to clear out his trailer on Dale Road, but cleaning crews beat him to it.

"There wasn't a lot in there that I could have salvaged, but there was some stuff that I was planning on getting to tomorrow, and now its torn up," he said.

McAfee isn't the only disgruntled flood victim.

"Shady Oaks is starting to move. They want to move. They want to move their people back in again. They're gonna give people 200 dollar deposits if they go in there and clean up that mess," resident Kim Pennington said.

Red Cross shelter in Millington closes

Dozens of evacuees left homeless after flooding in Millington are looking for a new place to stay after a Red Cross shelter closed its doors.  For nearly a week, evacuees have been taking shelter at the First Baptist Church in Millington.

"We have snakes in our home, so we will not be returning home, so we are actually, physically, homeless right now," Felicia Bryant said.

Angel Food Ministries to arrive in Millington

The Good Hope Transportation (AFM) truck, loaded with convenience meals for West Tennessee and Arkansas, will be arriving from Georgia in the office parking lot, 7664 Hwy. 51N, Millington, across from Homer Skelton Dodge, next to Dr. Floyd's office.

It will be here tomorrow morning, Saturday, May 8, by 8 AM and has to leave by 10 AM to take aid to Arkansas.

We will give out 1-2 meals per person per family.

In other words, if the family has 6 people, they would get 6-12 meals.

This would help with not having to completely cook for a meal or two.

AFM is trying to send more and, if they do, we will give more.

Sites from other counties, including Dyersburg, will be picking up here also.
