(WMC-TV) - You might wonder how at-risk youngsters in Memphis in the Mid-South might benefit via a connection to rap music royalty. Keep reading because Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, wants to offer a bit of his wealth to young people who generally have zero chance when it comes to college scholarships.

Jay-Z's foundation offers help to select young people who want to improve their education and make their own contributions to the community.

Construction is underway at the University of Memphis.

The University of Memphis announced Tuesday, they will be adding a new minor to the degree program for the Department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management in the Fogelman College of Business & Economics. A social commerce minor will be available to students in Fall 2012.

The university hopes to focus the minor on creating an online presence and crafting marketing strategies based on social media and modern technology.

This minor will be available to all students, but it is specifically geared to business majors. Students within the Fogelman Business College will need only 12 additional credit hours to receive the minor, and students outside the business major will need 18 hours for the minor.

This additional minor will be especially helpful for non-traditional students who are unfamiliar with social media.
