When you look back at the 2010-2011 school year, one of the recurring themes is service. Harding students have the heart to serve.  For over ten years, Harding Bible classes have supportedchildren at the Village of Hope in Ghana, Africa.

The holiday season saw a student initiated and led effort to fill back packs with socks, blankets, and change for the homeless. The new calendar year saw the SGA lead an effort for the Church Health Center to collect school supplies for their children's program.

Harding AP Calculus class wins award at 2011 Canstruction

On Friday, March 25, the AP Calculus class participated in the Canstruction event at the University of Memphis.

The goal for the calculus class was to build a "Gar-CAN-tous melon," and that is exactly what they did. They built a seven-and-a-half foot watermelon slice on a picnic blanket.

The calculus class had collected 2,054 cans to build their watermelon. The watermelon won the award "Best Use of Labels" by paying close attention to all the details, and even including seeds in the watermelon. All of the food will be donated to the Mid-South Food Bank. The structures will remain up in the lobby of the engineering building until the end of the week.

Snow days or no snow days

Shelby County school students may not have to make up all the snow days we had earlier this year.

Shelby County School Superintendent John Aitken said he does not want students to make up snow days this year.

It's now up to the Shelby County School Board to vote on the superintendent's reommendation.

So far this school year, county students have missed 4 days due to snow.
