Faith Baptist Church will be the site of the "Team Avery Benefit Concert," June 2, at 6 p.m. to help raise money for the teen, along with a silent auction.

Public schools take on private schools in all-star ball game

High school graduates in Millington are trading their caps and gowns for baseball cleats and mitts. The inaugural State Farm all-star baseball game will feature public schools seniors versus private school seniors.

 There will be a home-run derby during the pregame festivities starting at 5:30 p.m. and the 9 inning game will begin at 7:30 p.m.  This event will be at the USA Stadium on May 29.

St. Jude Bass Classic prepares for 40th tournament

Hundreds of Mid-South fisherman are gearing up to compete for a good cause this Memorial Day weekend in the St. Jude Bass Classic. The tournament is celebrating its' 40th year.

More than $2.5 million dollars have been raised since the competition’s beginning. Every dollar goes right to the hospital.

Each year the tournament focuses on one special patient, and fishing is a big part of this year’s patients’ family.

Hayden Taylor was recently diagnosed with cancer. Taylor and his father were out on the boat fishing when they received a phone call with the life-changing news.

Taylor’s family will drive from Virginia to be a part of the tournament.

Grave Digger, Monster Jam’s most recognizable star, will headline one of the most value-packed shows in the MidSouth history as the Thunder Jam roars into Memphis International Raceway May 12 for one night of over-the-top motorsports action.

“We have raced jets, we have raced wheelstanders, we have raced some of the fastest cars on the planet, but on May 12 we are going to see a new star take the stage,” said James Marchyshyn, Thunder Jam Operations Manager. “When Grave Digger rolls onto the track with tires as tall as the tower, it is going to be a sight unlike anything we have seen at Thunder Jam before."

MLGW is giving back to the community for the 24th consecutive year as it sponsors the Special Olympics Sportsfest at Rhodes College this weekend.

Dozens of MLGW employee volunteers will assist with the Special Olympics festivities including volleyball and power lifting.

The RMS Titanic, the world largest ship, sank April 15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. The accident claimed the lives of over 1,500 passengers. April 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the famed Titanic.  The 1997 Titanic movie, which won 11 Academy Awards and starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, has been rereleased in 3-D in time for this centennial.

But, if you really want to see the Titanic in true 3-D, then get to Hollywood Casino Tunica, just south of Memphis, to view their extensive, major memorabilia collection of props from the 1997 James Cameron Titanic movie.
