Mirimichi honored for going green

Mirimichi honored for going green

Superstar Justin Timberlake isn't just an actor and a singer, he's also an entrepeuner and his golf course has been recognized for being one of the world's most eco-friendly.

Not only did he buy the course, but he also went a step further and spent millions greening it up. The course underwent a massive eco-overhaul that added wetlands and native plants as well as a name change to Mirimichi, a Native American word meaning "place of happy retreat."

Former Globe Trotter star hosts basketball camp

Harlem Globetrotter legend and Memphis native Michael Douglas will host a basketball camp in the Millington Civic Center from July 5-8.  The camp is for children aged 7-14 and will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day for the cost of $100.

The camp seeks to not only improve fitness and basketball skill, but also help campers improve self-esteem and maintain positive attitudes. The camp is part of the Michael Douglas Youth Foundation whose mission is to provide communities with activities that are fun and promote healthy living.

Michael Douglas grew up in Memphis and attended Booker T. Washington High School before going on to star on the basketball team at Dyersburg State College in his home state of Tennessee.  He later was asked to join the Harlem Globetrotters after trying out with 1,500 other basketball players in 1986. He toured with the team until 1993 when he began to focus exclusively on the Michael Douglas Youth Foundation.
